The California crop circles that appeared on Chualar farm in Salinas, Calif., were discovered by a couple of friends who stumbled upon the crop circles in a barley field before sunrise. As reported by KSBW on Dec. 30, 2013, “two friends were driving on Chualar Canyon Road south of Salinas just before dawn Sunday when they witnessed strange bursts of green light flashing on the horizon. The duo turned on a video camera, pulled over, hopped a barbed-wire fence, and walked toward the lights. ‘Dude, are you seeing this?’ one friend said. ‘Dude, this is a crop circle’."
The two friends recorded their investigation of the field on camera and uploaded the discovery of the Salinas crop circle on YouTube. Other than flashing lights in the distance and a brief shot of flattened crops, most of the 145-second video shows the camera pointed to the ground, showing nothing. At the end, the two friends panic and run away.
On Monday morning, Julie Belanger, who is a professional photographer, also coincidentally discovered the crop circles in California while flying in a helicopter over the farm. Julie Belanger’s 19-second YouTube video shows the intricate and elaborately designed circles.
"It was beautiful. Quite beautiful," Julie Belanger told NBC affiliate KSBW. "I believe it's possible that aliens exist, but I don't know if they would bother making a crop circle to give us a message."
According to a Bay Area news report, security guards from San Jose-based Echelon Security have been placed outside of the farm property which is located about six miles southeast of Salinas. When asked about who hired them, the guards did not reveal their employer but only stated that they were there to prevent the area from “becoming a circus.”
Scott Anthony, the owner of the barley field, found out about the crop circles on his 2,000-acre California farm when he returned home from his vacation. While Scott Anthony thinks that some of the barley field could have just been pushed over, he is intrigued by the cryptic design. "To me, it looks like a computer chip, or something like that. To be that intricate in design, it kind of baffles me as to how that was done.”
