The Sacramento Republic F.C. drop their home opener to the visiting Harrisburg City Islanders 2-1 in front of a sell out crowd at Hughes Stadium. The loud and raucous crowd cheered on their football club as they went all out against the visiting City Islanders who held their own through a tight defensive unit and their goalie Nick Noble who made several key saves in front of the net in the waning minutes of the game. Republic F.C.'s Adam Jahn scored the team's only goal in the game.

Kick-off began a few minutes after 7:30, the crowd was one of the biggest ever in Hughes Stadium and the 20,231 set the USL Pro attendance record for a regular season game. The City Islanders drew first blood by scoring a goal in the 6th minute of the game. Midfielder Robbie Derschang connected with a netter (assisted by Yann Ekra). Sacramento would later tie the game in the 32nd minute with a goal from forward Adam Jahn (assisted by Max Alvarez). Both teams made for shot-on-goals and each goalie had a save.

The second half was another defensive battle with both sides running up and down the field pressing each others offensive. Sacramento had Harrisburg on their heels but due to their tight defensive and aggressive goal play from City Islanders Nick Noble, the Republic were unable to break the tie. Harrisburg would later score a goal in the 51st minute when forward Morgan Langley would slice through Sacramento's defenders and score to give the City Islanders a lead that they would never relinquish. The final score was Harrisburg 2 Sacramento 1.

After the game, Coach Preki gave a short interview with the press talking about what happened with the team throughout the game. Said Coach,"We had high expectations not only for the crowd but for us." He felt that the atmosphere and the crowd maybe got to them a bit and tried to prepare them all week for it and perhaps it got them too excited because many of the players had never played in front of such a large crowd. Coach also said that no excuses should be made for his team and felt that Harrisburg's defense was tough and gave up no space for the Republic to press forward when they tried to put them away in the final minutes of the game.

Sacramento Republic F.C. falls to 2-3-1 whilst the Harrisburg City Islanders improve to 1-2-1. The Republic's next game will be at home on May 3rd against the Orange County Blues F.C.
