Russian’s exploding meteor was not a meteor at all, but an American new weapon test, according to a member of Russia’s parliament. Vladimir Zhirinovsky blamed Americans for the exploding meteor scare saying to journalists, ““Those were not meteorites, it was Americans testing their new weapons,” according to The Washington Post on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
The controversial Zhirinovsky also included U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry into his conspiracy theory. He told reporters that Kerry has been trying to get a hold of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the test, but Lavrov was dodging Kerry’s calls. He went on to say that Kerry tried to warn the Russian Foreign Minister, but he was on a trip.
Zhirinovsky’s attempted to make a dig at Lavrov, which sounds as if this was the reason behind this conspiracy theory from the get-go. Zhirinovsky then stated:
“He was looking for Lavrov, and Lavrov was on a trip,” He continued with, “He meant to warn Lavrov about a provocation against Russia.”
Der Spiegel has called Zhirinovsky “a political clown” in the past, along with “radical right-wing boogie-man for the West.” The New York Times wrote about Zhirinovsky as someone who knows how to entertain an audience in an article in 1994, so he‘s been at this a long time. The New York Times wrote:
“Mr. Zhirinovsky can be racist, cruel, endlessly strident. But he knows how to draw a crowd and how to hold it.”
This twist on the meteor event has been successful at awarding him attention today. Readers of the New York Times commented on Zhirinovsky’s plight to pin the exploding meteor on the Americans and the new weapon they were allegedly testing. The majority of the commentators got more of a kick out of the attempt made by this man from the Russian Parliament than anything else.
One man asked if they’d like to swap Zhirinovsky for Donald Trump. Another commenter equated Zhirinovsky with the “Fox News quality spokes people.” One person got a kick out of the so-called weapon doing nothing more than breaking windows and suggesting if it was a new weapon then the U.S. has a long way to go. Unless of course it was designed to cause nothing more than a nuisance for making people replace broken glass.
Another commenter called this new weapon that Zhirinovsky is claiming the American’s set off over Russia as “The new windows weapon,” considering that’s all that this imaginary weapon managed to destroy! It is safe to say that not many of the readers are taking his claim seriously.
