Row covers are useful for all vegetable gardens (Video)

If you are gardener and are not yet familiar with a product called Reemay Cloth, this is one item you might want to check out.

Also called Season Extenders, Floating Row Covers, and other names depending on the manufacturer, whatever name you use these spun polyester covers can do a number of things depending on the weight.

Lightweight row covers let sun in and keep insects out. Just be careful not to leave over the plants during hot weather. Lightweight covers do not offer frost protection, but do keep the soil warmer. This can give you a head start in planting warm soil loving seeds such as melons.

Medium weight row covers protect plants from insects too, but provide more warmth underneath and last longer.

Heavyweight covers protect from freezing, usually down to about 22 degrees, but check the label. These work great to protect cool weather crops from unusually cold weather.
