As the Rolling Stones take a break from touring, guitarist Ronnie Wood and his third wife, Sally Humphreys Wood, have been spending time in London going to various celebrity events. On Aug. 20, 2013, the couple was at the world premiere and after-party for the 3-D documentary film "One Direction: This Is Us."
On July 8, 2013, the Woods were at the Novak Djokovic Foundation inaugural London gala dinner (hosted by tennis star Djokovic) at the Roundhouse. Ronnie is a massive fan of tennis. He and his wife were also at Wimbledon this year, when Andy Murray won a historic championship against Djokovic. Murray is the first British man in 77 years to win at Wimbledon.
Although it may seem strange to some people that Ronnie is hanging out with a pop boy band such as One Direction, he has actually been very open in being a One Direction fan. And the feeling is mutual.
One Direction's Harry Styles and Niall Horan (who are both 19 years old) went to the Rolling Stones' concert at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., on June 24, 2013. According to several postings on Twitter, Horan and Styles also hung out backstage with Ronnie and Sally.
Ronnie Wood tweeted a photo of the four of them together with this accompanying message: "Great to see you tonight @NiallOfficial & @Harry_Styles ~ glad you enjoyed the show! :)"
Sally Humphreys Wood posted on Twitter a photo of herself with Styles and Horan, with this accompanying message: "“Had a blast with @NiallOfficial & @Harry_Styles in the @RollingStones tongue pit ~ great night in DC!”
Horan tweeted after the concert: "Unbelievable experience tonight...massive thanks to @sallywood @ronniewood and @therollingstones a great gig..and for being so nice tonight."
Styles simply tweeted, "The Rolling Stones."
One Direction is the biggest-selling global act to emerge from "The X Factor." The group has had No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries.
The Rolling Stones' June 24 concert in Washington, D.C., was the Stones' last North American show on the Stones' 2013 tour. The Stones also did in England (at the Glastonbury Festival and at Hyde Park) as part of the tour. There is no word yet on whether or not the Rolling Stones will do more concerts in 2013. Mick Jagger told the BBC that the band is "on hiatus" until further notice.
In 2012, there was a rumor that Styles was in talks to play Jagger in the movie "Exile on Main Street," but Styles has denied that rumor.
In March 2012, Styles said that Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood wanted to work with One Direction someday. Styles told the Daily Mirror: “We were at a party a while ago and Ronnie said he wanted to come on with us and play guitar. I love the Stones, so I was like, ‘Cool.' It’d be amazing.”
