Former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) on Monday criticized former Navy SEAL sharpshooter Chris Kyle for his lifestyle, saying it led to his death.
"Chris Kyle's death seems to confirm that 'he who lives by the sword dies by the sword,'" Paul wrote on Twitter. "Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn't make sense."
Kyle was gunned down by a fellow veteran on Saturday at a Texas shooting range. The suspect, Eddie Routh, was taken into custody. Routh reportedly was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and befriended Kyle.
Kyle reputedly killed 160 people with sniper’s bullets and wrote a book about it titled, “American Sniper.”
Paul is well-known for noninterventionist foreign policy views that separated him from fellow members of Congress for more than a decade.
His positions on military and covert operations also made him stand out in the 2012 race for the Republican presidential nomination.
During his 1988 presidential campaign as the Libertarian Party nominee for president, he called for abolition of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Paul also ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
