Rolls-Royce Vignale Special: First car with toilet?

1955 Rolls was built by Vignale for an American in 1955

Vignale coachworks custom built a 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, complete with toilet, for New York businessman Joseph Maschuch and delivered it in 1955. Vignale added their own custom styling to the exterior with a back slanted rear window, inset headlights, special trim, and hubcaps.

This car was the last word in luxury with its sumptuous leather, built-in bar, television set, in-car telephone (all but unheard of in 1955), and the ulitimate convenience, a toilet hidden under the rear seat.

The car was displayed as part of the Blackhawk Collection at the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours where it drew many curious stares.

Gold-plated toilet seat is hidden under rear compartment passenger seat.

According to the car's last owner, the toilet "was mostly used to chill champagne." While some disgruntled car owners complain that their car is a toilet, only the owner of this Vignale Rolls can truly claim his car has a toilet.

According to an article in the October 2001 issue of Popular Mechanics you missed the first toilet by 45 years. Below is the excerpt:
David Smith's 53-in.-long model of the special touring landaulet built for Pierce-Arrow president George K. Birge in 1910. This brass age recreational vehicle had a foldout wash basin with hot and cold running water, a built-in toilet and a back seat that converted into a bed.
