Rockmart woman killed in fatal auto accident

A Rockmart woman was killed Wednesday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in a two vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a car.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ga. Hwy 278 and 113 in Rockmart.

Ivanette Alexander Turner, 86, was killed and her husband, James Alfred Turner, 87, suffered serious injuries. James Turner was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.

According to police reports, James Turner and his wife Ivanette were traveling east on Ga. Hwy. 278 when Turner attempted to make a left turn onto Peacock Drive in front of Walmart. Turner turned left and collided with a tractor-trailer truck driven by Gregory Scott Smith of Dallas.

No charges will be filed in the accident.
