'Robot Chicken' lends animated hand to Nintendo E3 2014 presentation

On June 10, Nintendo took center stage at E3 2014 with their annual presentation, "Nintendo E3 Digital Event." However, since their presentation wasn't live at the Electronic Entertainment Expo itself, they needed a little flair to keep up with their competition, and with a little help from the animators over at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the same people behind Adult Swim's hit series, "Robot Chicken," showed viewers a side of their favorite Nintendo characters that they've never seen before.

Nintendo’s 2014 presentation kicked off with a hilarious skit that pokes fun at how one pronounces Nintendo COO, Reggie Fiis-Amie’s last name, along with Reggie being heckled by fans in attendance, which he silences by grabbing a Fire Flower and showing them some real fire power. Other memorable moments throughout the opening include an upset Mario who leaves E3 in true diva style when no new game is announced from his franchise, a bitter confrontation between Link from “The Legend of Zelda” and his “Toon” counterpart, and a take over of the opening ceremonies by noted Nintendo villains Wario and Ganondorf.

Throughout the presentation, viewers also saw other animated behind-the-scenes moments with other popular Nintendo stars. One noted moment included an awkward conversation between Bowser and Princess Peach about him capturing her so many times over the years. Things get even more awkward during a conversation with “StarFox” hero Fox McCloud and “Punch-Out” fighter Little Mac, about why Mac never takes off his boxing gloves. Mac tries to pour and drink a cup of coffee with his gloves still on, ultimately spilling the hot beverage on himself.

“Robot Chicken’s” presence at the Nintendo event added to the excitement and energy of the company's annual E3 presentation. Highlights of the event included the announcement of new games, such as “Mario Maker,” “Yoshi’s Wooly World,” and "Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker," along with the announcement of both Mii Brawler and “Kid Icarus” star Lady Palutena being added to the roster of playable characters for the upcoming “Super Smash Bros.” game for both Wii U and 3DS.
