Rob Ford temporarily steps down as Toronto Mayor

News reports today indicate Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was caught again smoking the crack pipe and abusing alcohol. This time the news included Ford recognizing his need for professional help, and will be taking a break from his mayoral and campaign duties.

According to CNN Ford made a statement which confirms his idea of getting help for his addiction disease. “I have tried to deal with these issues by myself over the past year. I know that I need professional help and I am now 100% committed to getting myself right.” However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard him say he was quitting.

Although Ford reports he’s seeking treatment for alcohol addiction, it’s not clear if treatment will include other substance abuse. Back in November Ford said he had put down the crack pipe, but recently released videos alleges he was smoking crack-cocaine not to long ago. Drug abuse centers clarify it’s hard for people to stop cold turkey, because the tolerance a persons body can build leads to wanting larger amounts and addiction. Regardless, at least now the City of Toronto can have some relief from his ongoing public antics of intoxicated rants.

At a press conference Toronto City Councillor, and brother Doug Ford, emotional in front of cameras and choked-up said, “I love my brother, I’ll continue to stand by my brother.” It, too, appears his mother didn’t know just how bad her son’s addiction disease is.

Others in the political arena believe the Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford should resign his current duties, and drop out of his campaign altogether, rather than taking a leave of absence.
