As this writer’s regular reader’s are aware, we began 2013 with our proposed apolitical “Political Boot Camp” New Year’s Resolutions. You can see this January 1st, Article here: “2013 New Year’s Resolutions Provoked by Election 2012” http://t.co/q4p6grZF . A Portion of Exercise two of that Political Boot Camp resolution follows:Natural Law, Natural Rights, Divine Right of Kings, Consent of the Governed and the Enlightenment. To help us share a common perspective to evaluate experiences and data we encounter, we must each study, abide by and evaluate our experiences in the context of Natural Law.In what seems to be a response to these proposed Political Boot Camp Resolutions, this writer has became aware of various rumblings within the Academic Community. Last week this writer became aware of this article “Education plan reopens divide on U.S. history” http://t.co/c6ZobtnU
Once the reader gets past the “America the Ugly” dialogue, you come upon an attempt to Turn Natural Law into a matter of religion. And anyone who can see a few moves ahead, can anticipate that this is an attempt is to prevent Natural Law cannot be taught in the Schools.
The words “Law of Natural” aka Natural Law and “Unalienable Rights” appear in our Declaration of Independence. Our Bill of Rights itself is the reduction to writing of certain Natural Law Rights. In fact, at one point it was argued that these Certain, Unalienable Natural Law Rights were so obvious, that there was no need for a Bill of Rights.
That having been said, this writer is hard pressed to understand how our educational system will provide the continuity required to keep the Republic healthy and united if these fundamental philosophical unpinning of our Founding Father’s and our Founding Documents cannot be taught, analyzed and expounded upon in our public schools.
To familiarize you with the importance of Natural Law to the very Foundation of our Republic and what it stands for, it is important to understand Natural Law and a little about recent history.
There was a period of our history known as the Enlightenment or the Age of Reason. This period ran from roughly 1650AD to 1800AD During this period of time, man came to rely more on his rational thought process to explain and understand the world around him, rather than rely on blind faith, tradition, superstition and religious explanations.
Before the Enlightenment, the primary basis for Government was the “Divine Right of Kings” As the King (or Queen) was a God or the representative of God here on Earth, no earthly being had the right to challenge their decisions and judgments. Further, all Property belonged to the King. And every “Subject” was allowed to be on any portion of the King’s land purely at the whim and discretion of the King or his designated subordinates.
Out of the Enlightenment, Natural Law was reduced to writing. The Men of Letters emphasized that Natural Law and Natural Law Rights had always existed, and that they were merely reducing to writing Natural Law and Natural Rights that had always existed. (see John Locke)
Among these Natural Law Rights were the Right to Life, the Right to be secure in one’s person, The Right to own Private Property, Freedom of Religion, the Right to Participate in Government and the Right to Revolution. (This is not intended to be an exhaustive list or essay on Natural Law Rights)
From the concepts of Natural Law came the idea of Social Contracts among people to form Communities and Governments. Further people, of their own free will, consented to suborn some of their Natural Rights that they might live in harmony in Society. And the “Social Contract” became a fundamental part of the new model for Government. Instead of an unaccountable royalty, Government became subject to the “Consent of the Governed”.
Our Founding Documents were written near the end of the Age of Enlightenment 1650-1800AD. (Declaration of Independence 1776, US Constitution 1787 , Bill of Rights 1791) Natural Law led to the violent overthrow of some Governments who continued to be based on the Divine Right of Kings… The French Revolution and the American Revolution are examples of governments overthrown because of the concepts of Natural Law developed during the Enlightenment. Other Governments, seeing the writing was on the wall, incorporated Natural Law Rights into their style of Governance.
THE TYRANNY OF THE DIVINE RIGHT OF KINGS WAS CAST OFF DUE TO CONCEPTS OF NATURAL LAW DEVELOPED DURING THE ENLIGHTENTMENT.
WE THE PEOPLE MUST ENSURE THAT EACH SUCCESSIVE GENERATION OF AMERICANS ARE TAUGHT AND EMBRACE THE DOCTRINE OF NATURAL LAW AND NATURAL RIGHTS TO PRESERVE OUR REPUBLIC AND LIBERTIES AS THE FOUNDING FATHER’S ENVISIONED.
It should be apparent that those Kings and their Courts that lost their Divine Right to Rule, were unhappy at this loss. More importantly, nothing in this world last forever. Those persons that lost their Divine Privilege have been diligently workings to subvert the Natural Law and Natural Rights that overthrew them.. They wish to regain their previous power and wealth derived via the Divine Right of Kings are working to unbind themselves from the “Consent of the Governed”.
And one manner in which this is being done is by ignoring Natural Law and Natural
Rights or spinning it to have different meaning for new generations than the Founder’s intended.
For the hand that rocks the cradle, is the hand that rules the world."
from a poem by William Ross Wallace
In the 2013 Resolutions, this writer has opined to each of you to learn Chess. The moves being played to Identify Natural Law as being religious in nature are the prelude to a future move of the Powers that be. That future move being to prohibit the teaching of Natural Law in the Schools on the basis of Separation of Church and State.
Nothing frightens our elected officials, or any government for that matter, than having its citizens understand that their Unalienable Natural Law Rights do not come from words on any sheet of paper, but reside within each and everyone of them as individuals. And citizens so empowered cannot be managed and manipulated like sheople who believe their rights come from their government.
As surely as the Enlightenment and Recognition of Natural Law and Natural Rights brought down the tyranny of the Divine Right of Kings, so shall the failure of WE THE PEOPLE to nourish and embrace the constructs of Natural Law and Natural Rights give rise to the reassertion of Government Authority which will not be held accountable and will disregard Natural Law Rights that were previously asserted to be unalienable. In other words, the resurrection of the Divine Right of Kings.
Finally, Natural Law and Natural Rights can be taught in a secular manner, They can be asserted as inherently existing in each and every person. For those of religious conviction, it is a simple matter to assert or be instructed by their religious leaders that Natural Law Rights are bestowed on them as blessing by a Supreme Being. At the same time, those of a non-religious nature can assert that their Natural Law Rights simply flow from the Nature of the Cosmos, in a manner analogous to a beam of sunshine striking them and providing warmth.
CONCLUSION
Apparently enough of you have accepted the 2013 Political Boot Camp Resolutions and made calls to various School curriculum Boards to cause concern among the powers that be. Thank you. Yet our work has just begun.
We now know the “Powers that be” respect and fear a citizenry educated and armed with Natural Law and Natural Rights. So armed, WE THE PEOPLE have the Power to Restore the Republic, demand Consent of the Governed and restoration our Liberties. We must now enlarge our followers and exert even more pressure on the Schools to teach the Concepts of Natural Law, Natural Rights and Consent of the Governed to new generations of Americans.
United by a system of beliefs that embraces Natural Law and the existence of Unalienable Rights for all people, WE THE PEOPLE will shall share a common vision and be united in voting out and/or defeating the current corrupt group of Politicians and Bureaucrats that occupy our Seats of Power.
If you have not already committed to the 2013 Political Boot camp Resolutions, please do so now. If not for you, for your children, grandchildren and future generations of Americans.
Natural Law and Natural Rights end the tyranny of the Divine Right of Kings, Let it not be said that our generation was the one that stood by as Natural Law and Natural Rights were dismantled and a modern version of the Divine Right of Kings resurrected.
They who know not their history are destined to repeat it.
Edmund Burke
Those were my thoughts.
In Closing:
