It’s hard to believe that Michael Jackson has been gone for five years now. Much has been written about this iconic and troubled pop megastar by many. And now, Michael Jackson has a new voice in the recently-released book “Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson In His Final Days" by Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard with Tanner Colby.

It was December 2006. Veteran security guard Bill Whitfield was assigned the task of getting an anonymous client from the airport to his new home. He watched as a woman and three kids got off the plane, followed by a thin man dressed in black with his face covered, slip-on loafers and white socks. Later, when he asked who these people were and was told, “That’s Michael Jackson,” Bill’s shocked expression was, and I quote, “Get the f*** outta here!”

Much to Bill’s surprise that night, Michael Jackson introduced him to his children as “our new security.” Michael then added, “You’ll be staying the night, right?” The only thing Bill could think of to say was, “Yes, sir.”

From that point on, Bill Whitfield’s life was never the same. When an additional guard was needed, he called on Javon Beard to fill that role. Together, the two men made a formidable team protecting Michael Jackson and, more importantly to Michael Jackson, his beloved children, Prince, Paris and Blanket.

Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard describe a very different Michael Jackson, not the star-studded pop icon on stage with a jeweled glove. They describe a man who was a father, first and foremost, who loved his children more than life. You will also read about a vulnerable soul, wounded in a very public childhood, who placed too much of his trust with the wrong people time and time again. Sadly, he paid the price.

Both men were fans, but the relationship that developed went far deeper than that. The resulting closeness to Michael and the kids developed into a tender and almost-obsessive dedication to the small, family. In a sense, Bill and Javon actually became part of that family.

Is “Remember the Time” just another voice in the crowd? No. Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard were Michael Jackson’s bodyguards for the last few years of his life. That vantage point gave them a very unique perspective on Michael Jackson, a lot more up close and personal than most of what’s been written.

“Remember the Time” is written in a unique style where you are first given the background to each chapter by New York Times best-selling author Tanner Colby. Then Bill and Javon give you their unique take on each situation, what they did, what they thought and how they felt.

“Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson In His Final Days” by Bill Whitfield, Javon Beard and Tanner Colby is a book that’s hard to put down and one you won’t soon forget. If you’re a Michael Jackson fan, you’ll love the personal touch. And even if you’re not a fan, this book will answer questions for you and show you a very different side of a man everyone thought they knew but, in reality, few did.
