Ramblers creates heavenly hikes in England for adventurous jet-setters (Photos)

Off you go. For you fitness-oriented, adventurous jet-setters, English Lakeland Ramblers has created a unique hiking tour that begins and ends with cliffs and headlands, first on the Irish Sea, then on the North Sea. In between, trails lead you through hills and dales, past leas and tarns and across scenic mountain passes. The 16-day trek costs $3,600 per person.

Imagine visiting a centuries-old abbey, tiny towns with cobblestone streets and flower boxes, and hiking up to 2,000-foot high crags with commanding views. You stop to catch your breath and photograph signposts with irresistible Monty Python-esque names like Crackpot Hill and Nannycatch and Jugger Howe. Some experts are calling this “one of the best hikes in the world.” Others are more succinct: “Spectacular!” “Breathtaking (sometimes literally)!”

Check out the full itinerary at www.ramblers.com. On the tour you walk from hotel to hotel (staying a couple of nights in some of them so you don’t have to pack and unpack every day) with a luggage van to tow your belongings from inn to inn. You’ll be traveling with no more than 10 or 12 fresh-air lovers, usually people who are serious about their walking but convivial and engaging when you sit down to dinner. Your guide, Terry, is expert not only on terrain and sights – he’s also a noted authority on the Lakeland poets, so don’t be surprised if the hills come alive with the words of Wordsworth.

If you book either of our two Coast to Coast departures between now and March 31, you earn a discount of $350 per person which brings the price down to just $3,600 per person for 16 days. Look at it this way: that $4,600 means 16 glorious days of sightseeing and exercise for less than $265 per person per day – and that includes lodgings in country inns and hotels, breakfasts and lunches daily, 6 dinners, 14 fully guided hikes, local taxes, transfers for guests, transfers for luggage, services of guides and assistants.

Coast to Coast tours are scheduled for May 5, 20103, and August 25, 2013. If those dates don’t work for you, the company can set up a self-guided tour or a private guided tour for you, your friends and your family on a date that fits your personal schedule.
