According to Tuesday's WMTW News, several puppies perished in a barn fire at a dog breeder's business in Turner, Maine.

Flames began to engulf the structure late Monday night - most of the dogs inside of the barn at Varney's Labs were able to escape the blaze, but three young puppies were not able to get out in time.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames for hours, but the structure was a total loss. The blaze is believed to have been started by a wood stove.

The owner of the breeding operation, Brad Varney, has been breeding, and selling, Labrador retrievers for the past 20 years.
