At the start of next week, gamers will experience a five hour downtime for the Playstation Network as service undergoes planned maintenance. Sony announced the scheduled maintenance period on Friday which is expected to bring down PSN early Monday morning.
Those who have logged into the network recently will still be able to play games only and use apps such as Netflix during this period but there may be intermediate disruptions of service while the maintenance occurs. The Playstation Store and account management will likely be unavailable during this period as will most other function of the Playstation Network for those who haven’t signed into their account in the past few days.
Besides performing normal maintenance on the network, the downtime will increase the number of portable devices that can be attached to an account by allowing gamers to have three portable systems activated on the same account. This includes both the PSP and PS Vita.
