On Thursday, March 21, Sony Computer Entertainment released a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3. PS3 Firmware update 4.40 is a mandatory update and is now available for download.
Users will be prompted to update their PS3 upon start-up. To download the latest PS3 firmware, go Settings > System Update and begin the small and fast download for firmware 4.40.
PS3 firmware 4.40 is a very tiny update and the official patch notes one state two changes have been made to the PS3. Like many of the PlayStation 3’s previous firmware updates, firmware 4.40 addresses system stability.
In addition to stability, firmware 4.40 also adds support for RC-S380 – a Sony NFC reader.
All-in-all, this latest PS3 firmware update doesn’t seem to do much. Luckily, the download is quite fast and installation takes on a few moments, so at least it isn’t a burden to download and install this new system update.
