Thousands of people from across the nation were heartbroken over the story about Louie, an emaciated pit bull who, just weeks ago, was surrendered to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Since Louie's discovery, he has made wonderful progress under the caring hands of the veterinary staff at the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group (VERG) in Brooklyn, N.Y.
On Wednesday morning, VERG shared the following heartwarming update with their Facebook fans:
Louie is staying warm and cozy in his bed. He is doing well today and seems in good spirits.
When Louie first arrived at the veterinary hospital, he was so weak that he could not stand, walk or even lift his head. Today, he is mobile and interactive and he continues to steadily gain weight.
On Tuesday, VERG wrote:
His ears have even perked up a bit! Louie weighed 22.0 lbs this morning. He started out at 18.4. He's making progress!
Louie is a courageous dog who has managed to overcome an inordinate amount of suffering.
Dr. Carolyn Clarke. Dr. Smith stated:
"There are so many things that are rewarding about caring for Louie. To name a few: he has been so courageous throughout this process. Watching his personality shine through more and more every day is amazing. He couldn't even lift his head up when he first came in here. To be a part of his progress is a gift in itself."
