HRH Prince Ernst August of Hanover has been hospitalized once again with acute pancreatitis, a serious condition that can be brought on by heavy drinking. He was on holiday in Ibiza when he was rushed to the hospital. Prince Ernst, who is still legally married to HRH Princess Caroline, was hospitalized for the same condition six years ago. At that time the Prince fell into a coma during the funeral of his father-in-law Prince Rainier and, after recovering, he vowed to turn his life around. This time there are considerably fewer members of the Monaco royal family rallying around him. The Prince has not been seen with his wife in over two years and at the time he was in the ICU this round, she was on holiday in Italy. It was not clear whether the Princess or her daughter with Ernst, Princess Alexandra, were aware of his condition. The couple has been married since 1999, but is deeply estranged. Princess Caroline left France and returned to Monaco full time and Prince Ernst did not attend the recent wedding of his brother-in-law HSH Prince Albert.
