On Friday, Montgomery County police arrested Joaquin Orellana Torres, 24, after he reportedly grabbed a woman on a jogging trail in Silver Spring, and brutally raped her. The victim was also robbed during the attack.
On May 5, a woman in her 20s was out for an afternoon jog on Northwest Branch Trail near Oakview Drive, when Torres approached her. He grabbed her, dragged her into the woods, held a knife to her throat and threatened to cut her, according to prosecutors.
She fought back, punching the illegal alien in the face. At one point during the attack, the victim actually escaped "the clutches of this defendant, but he chased her down further," said Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office spokesman Ramon Korionoff.
The woman was also beaten mercilessly as she was raped. Before fleeing the scene, Torres also stole her iPhone.
Torres was taken into custody, when detectives searching the woods spotted him with the backpack matching the victim's description. He was still wearing the beaded necklace the woman described as well, according to a police report.
In addition to DNA evidence linking Torres to the unspeakable crime, the Salvadoran national has also confessed to the rape. He has been charged with first-degree rape and robbery, and is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on an ICE detainer.
While Torres' crime is incredibly heinous, this columnist would be remiss in his duty not to point out the equally heinous roles played by both the federal and local governments in this despicable act. In fact, it would not be unfair to say that President Barack Hussein Obama is just as responsible for this woman's rape, as is Joaquin Orellana Torres...
In 2009, Torres was found guilty of sexually assaulting a student at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington. The girl told police: "Even when I said 'no', he proceeded to try to unbutton my pants," reported ABC 7.
Torres was sentenced to two years probation and 60 hours of community service, and subsequently deported. Obviously, he had no trouble re-entering the country and making his way back to the 'sanctuary' county of Montgomery.
Unfortunately, the elected leaders of Montgomery have made their county a safe haven for illegal aliens. For years, they refused to cooperate in any way with federal immigration authorities and continue to shield criminal aliens from deportation, except in only the most egregious cases.
Of course, President Obama has weakened our security from day one, and has basically ended all immigration enforcement, both at the border as well as within the interior of this country, as is evidenced by a recent report detailing how the Obama administration released 36,000 criminal aliens (including drug dealers and sex offenders) back onto our streets, last year alone.
In fact, one of the first actions Obama took as president, was to stop construction of the double-layered, barbed wire border fence mandated by the Secure Fence Act of 2006. After all, such a fence could actually stop his most important constituency...those who seek to work and even vote here illegally.
If we had a president who actually took his oath of office seriously, and protected this nation "from all enemies, foreign and domestic," Joaquin Orellana Torres would not have been able to re-enter this country through a secure border. And, this young woman, and so many others would not have been raped by someone who had no right to be here.
