President Obama's state-by-state approval rating: Gallup

Gallup, the national polling company, released the results of its 2012 daily tracking polls on Monday which show President Barack Obama’s approval rating from state-to-state, including the District of Columbia where the president currently resides.

No surprise, the president has done best in his current Democratic-heavy Washington, D.C. – the District of Columbia – which, of course, isn’t a state but is included in the Gallup’s approval rating polls. Of the actual states, the president scored best in his home state of Hawaii. What might be somewhat surprising is that the state Obama calls his home state, Illinois - as he owns a home there on Chicago’s South Side – didn’t quite make the top ten states when looking where the president’s job approval has been the best.

On the disapproval side, Utah is least of the president, followed closely by a poor rating by Wyoming. Both states have less than three-of-every-ten residents having said that they approve of President Obama’s performance as commander-in-chief.

From most approving to least approving, here are Gallup’s approval ratings for President Obama by state:

The District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.) gave an 82.4% approval rating.

Regionally, the president appears to be strongest in the Northeast and the Pacific Coast while not considered a strong president in the Mountain West, the South, and the Plains states.
