President Obama proposes tax breaks for companies ‘insourcing’ American jobs

In a speech in the East Room of the White House with many of America’s business leaders in attendance, President Obama announced on Wednesday the continued commitment previously as well as going forward by his administration and many leaders in the private sector to work toward what he called the ‘insourcing’ of jobs to America.

The President also announced that in the coming weeks the White House would be proposing tax breaks which reward companies who focus on job growth in the United States while removing tax breaks for companies which choose to send jobs overseas.

The President stated to applause, “I don’t want America to be a nation that’s primarily known for financial speculation and racking up debt buying stuff from other nations.  I want us to be known for making and selling products all over the world stamped with three proud words:  “Made in America.”  And we can make that happen.”

In addition, the President urged Congress to extend for the rest of 2012 the two month payroll tax cut which is currently set to expire at the end of February.

Obama also gave some examples of companies and industries which have been striving to create jobs within the United States: large companies such as Ford Motor Company and Master Lock as well as smaller companies such as GalaxE Solutions, a healthcare IT company, and even small family-run companies such as Lincolnton Furniture, a manufacturing company in North Carolina have been able to find solutions to add jobs in the tough economy.

While optimistic, the President remarked that there is still much to be done to completely mend the economy.

He said, “After shedding jobs for more than a decade, American manufacturers have now added jobs for two years in a row.  That’s good news.  But when a lot of folks are still looking for work, now is the time for us to step on the gas.”

In closing, President Obama asked business leaders to ask themselves, “What you can do to bring jobs back to the country that made our success possible?”

Our central goal as a country,” according to Obama, should be, “how we rebuild an economy where hard work pays off, responsibility is rewarded -- a nation where those values continue for generations to come.”
