President Barack Obama will meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican during a European trip. Obama’s trip and meeting with Pope Francis is currently scheduled for March 27, 2014, according to a Huffington Post report on Tuesday.
The president is looking forward to discussing with Pope Francis their shared commitment to fighting poverty and growing inequality, according to the White House. During the same European trip, President Obama will meet with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Prime Minister Enrico Letta in Rome.
On March 24, President Obama will commence his European trip in The Hague, Netherlands. In The Hague, he will meet with Dutch leaders and take part in a nuclear security summit which is being conducted by the government in the Netherlands.
On March 26, the president will be in Brussels, Belgium for a United States-European Union summit. The summit will be attended by presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, and he will also meet with Belgian leaders and Anders Fogh Rasmussen who is NATO’s secretary general.
