Pregnant Stacy Keibler talks Paleo diet: No dairy, nightshade veggies, gluten

The war on wheat has received celebrity approval from Stacy Keibler. She follows a Paleo-style low carb diet and, as a result, has not had to battle any cravings during her pregnancy, she told People magazine on July 13.

"I’m so grateful and so blessed, but I truly believe that it is a testament to having a healthy lifestyle," she said about her lack of desire for doughnuts. "I’m very mindful of everything that I put into my body and that I put on my skin."

In addition, Stacy has exercised "every single day." As a result of her activity, she feels that her energy level has made it "really easy."

Part of a Paleo diet involves avoiding dairy and gluten. She told Natural Health magazine that she became a believer of the low-carb caveman approach after following a 21-day cleanse based on the guidelines in the book Clean by Alejandro Junger, M.D.

“I cut out night-shade vegetables, like eggplants and tomatoes, and didn't eat any dairy or gluten. I saw the difference in my body, my energy and my mental clarity. Even the whites of my eyes were clearer," she said.

For those who want to try her approach, Stacy advises keeping it simple. "If you’re just starting, I say eliminate dairy and wheat. A lot of people who thought their external environment was the cause of their allergies see their symptoms go away when those foods are cut out."

Dr. Junger recently appeared on Dr. Mehmet Oz's talk show. He discussed three types of cleanses, all of which he said will flatten your stomach while jump-starting weight loss.

She avoids soy as well as coffee. And for those who feel that eating right costs too much, Stacy makes this point: "You’re either going to pay at the grocery store or at the doctor."

Lunch usually includes "a salad with organic chicken and vegetables with really, really great olive oil, lemon wedges and salt and pepper." And for snacks, she likes kale chips and nuts.

In contrast to Stacy, Kim Kardashian gained a significant amount of weight during her own pregnancy. She shed her post-pregnancy weight with a high fat low carb ketogenic diet. But now Kim is offering advice about pregnancy weight gain that some find offensive, reported the Los Angeles Times on July 13.

The baby weight brouhaha began when Kim responded to a question about her pregnancy style advice with this comment: "I recommend hiding for a good year and having no pregnancy style. If you can do it, hide. Never leave the house."

She followed up her snarky suggestion with the taunting tip: "That’s really my recommendation. Wear a huge blanket."

When Kim was subsequently attacked for what many viewed as demeaning to pregnant women, Kim attempted to put a positive spin on her remarks. "I guess you can’t be sarcastic when doing interviews!" she tweeted. "I jokingly said pregnant woman should hide/stay in if they looked like I did lol.”

But the LOL (lots of laughs) were on Kim as she found herself repeatedly trying to defend herself, reported Hollywood Life on July 14. "“I really should start video taping the interviews I do & post on my website so u can see the laughs & how it’s really said," she declared.

Her sisters Khloe and Kourtney were present during the interview. Kim emphasized that they were all laughing at what she insisted was a joke.

However, during her own pregnancy and subsequent struggle to lose her baby weight, Kim repeatedly made it clear that she hated the media exposure that she faced when she left her house. And although she never resorted to a blanket, Kim did stay in her house most of the time unless she lost a noticeable amount of weight.
