The annual program, which aired on Saturday night, was hosted by Anthony Anderson of "Law & Order" fame. However, some fans would say the legendary leader who has acted in more than 20 films was upstaged by Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia Pope on "Scandal."
The actress, who is with child, took the outstanding actress in a drama series award for the show that won the outstanding drama series at this celebratory event.
That said, Kerry literally dazzled in her bright blue gown on the red carpet, on the Pasadena Civic Auditorium stage, and in the press room after her win.
She was wearing a satin Thakoon frock with a dramatic off-the-shoulder collar done in a contrasting peach hue. Her hair tumbled downwards in a dramatic upsweep that left some strands hanging.
While Kerry was on show, Washington's "Scandal” co-stars -- among them Guillermo Diaz, Darby Stanchfield, Dan Bucatinsky, Tony Goldwyn, Katie Lowes and Bellamy Young -- were on hand to celebrate the win for their show and for their Olivia Pope at the 45th annual version of this awards program held during award show season a week prior to the Academy Awards.
And so, as a pregnant Kerry Washington was a vibrant winner at the NAACP Image Awards, so was the oh-so-polished Olivia Pope. How about that for a situation that is not at all a coincidence?
