Possible "Carrie" remake in the works along with a King based anthology film

According to an article from Aintitcool.com, MGM is in talks to bring Stephen King's first novel, Carrie, back to the big screen.  Kimberley Pierce, who you may recognize as the director from previous films such as Stop-Loss and Boys Don't Cry, is in the running to take the helm on this one.

Considering that the De Palma film is a classic, it should come as no surprise that there are many who are wary of the idea.  While one could argue that this will modernize the concept, you have to remember that they tried that with the loose sequel and it didn't pan out the way one might've hoped.

The article vaguely suggests that this adaptation will take more of a feminist route.  I'm not sure how you go about doing that.  Maybe change the bully characters into men, or change Carrie's fanatical mother into a fanatical father?  I mean, you already have a female lead who starts off as a timid wallflower and eventually stands up and declares that she's mad as hell and that she's not gonna take it anymore.

In a way, this should come as no surprise.  The broadway adaptation is making a return to the stage and with bullying becoming something of a hot button issue in recent years, I can see why people would want to take another crack at this book to bring the issue further into the forefront.

In somewhat related news, there are talks of another King inspired film.  Coming from a different article on the same aforementioned site, there are rumblings that another anthology film is in the works.  Little is known at this point, but it will apparently consist of four different stories.

Mark Pavia will be writing the script, though it is unknown which stories will be featured.  He could take Full Dark, No Stars and adapt those novellas, or he could jump around and take as of yet unadapted stories from different collections.  It's too early to tell at this point, but if this does get off the ground, it will be interesting to see what ends up making the cut.
