Someone tied a rock to the leg of a sweet-natured dog in Dearborn Heights, Mich., and threw him into a river, reported Friday's Detroit Free Press.
The two-year-old dog, a Labrador retriever mix dubbed "River," by his rescuers, was spotted in the Rouge River on the night of August 26.
Police officers responded to the call about the distressed dog and were able to rescue him from the river.
River is currently in the care of the Dearborn Animal Shelter where employees are stunned that he was targeted in such a cruel manner.
Friends of the Dearborn Animal Shelter Executive Director Elaine Greene said in a statement
Animal cruelty of any kind is deplorable, but this situation seemed vicious in its intent,”
The dog…appears to be very friendly, and we are disturbed that anyone would do such a thing to him.”
Now, a $1,000 reward has been offered by the Dearborn Animal Shelter for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the disturbing crime.
Anyone with tips about this case is asked to call the Dearborn Police at 313-277-7408.
