The undercover caper occurred Oct. 3 when two volunteer underage agents visited nine businesses attempting to purchase alcohol. Police said the operation – conducted by Sixth Precinct Crime Section officers – was conducted to verify that local businesses were in compliance with the laws regarding the sale of alcohol to minors.
Police arrested Akkaya Husamettin, 51, of Elmont, at the OK Petroleum gas station located t 2117 Route 25 in Centereach. Subedi Ramchandra, 29, of Coram, was busted at the BP station at 3117 Route 347 in Coram and Eduardo Bauzon, 60, of Port Jefferson, was cuffed at the Sunoco station at 240 Terryville Road in Port Jefferson Station. Each were charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child after they allegedly sold alcohol to the volunteer agents, cops said.
Authorities said the other six stores visited were in full compliance with the law and refused to sell booze to the minors. They are: The BP gas station at 1258 Route 25 in Selden; Valero Gas at 1274 Route 25 in Selden; Mobil Gas at 2033 Route 25 in Centereach; Exxon at 2309 Route 25 in Centereach; BP Gas on Route 25 in Centereach; and the Sunoco station at 669 Old Town Road in Port Jefferson Station.
The three clerks arrested were each released on appearance tickets and will appear at First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 5.
