The screen shot features the deer-like Pokemon, or at least the back portion of its head, in the background and Pikachu in the foreground, sending the Internet ablaze wonder if the Pokemon X cover monster will be a playable character in the upcoming iteration of Super Smash Bros.
However, Masahiro Sakurai has remained mum on the rumors, taking to the Miiverse to write, “We have absolutely nothing to announce today regarding Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Really!”
Speculation, aside from Xerneas being a playable character, has the Pokemon as part of the Pokemon Balls in the game, but no information has been revealed as to the character’s involvement yet.
What is known at this time is that Pokemon X and Y have killed it in terms of sales in Japan in its first week of release.
The games combined to sell 1.866 million units for the Nintendo 3DS last week in the region, pushing out more games in the same time frame than the combined totals of the next 19 titles on the Media Create charts.
Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U is due out in 2014.
