Favorites are marked with 5 asterisks *****.

High End: ~$120 and up
These represent the high-end and ultra-high end, typically featuring the best audio as well as surround sound (5.1 or 7.1) and other features, such as wireless operation and voice morphing.

  • CM Storm Sirus 5.1 *****
The CM Storm Sirus 5.1 gaming headset doesn't offer a lot of features, but it hits all the right notes when it comes to comfort, design, and quality sound.
  • Logitech G930 Wireless *****
Essentially a new and improved version of Logitech's G35 USB, Logitech's G930 Wireless offers an outstanding mix of powerful features, 7.1 audio, superior design, and wireless freedom.
  • Creative Labs World of Warcraft Wireless *****
The Creative Labs World of Warcraft Wireless headset delivers some of the best audio and comfort you can experience in a PC gaming headset, topped off with wireless freedom and a little WoW-themed 'bling' in a near-perfect package.
  • Razer Banshee StarCraft II headset
The Razer Banshee StarCraft II headset is arguably the best of Razer’s licensed StarCraft II gaming gear, which is a little ironic considering that its signature feature—the APM (Actions-Per-Minute) lighting system—is useless to the gamer wearing it.
  • Razer Megalodon 7.1
The Razer Megalodon is comfortable, easy-to-install, portable, and it produces great sound. However, its biggest strengths are also its biggest weaknesses.
  • Sharkoon X-tatic SR 7.1
The Sharkoon X-tatic SR 7.1 headset is a sold 'all-rounder' gaming headset good for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 gamers alike.
  • Tritton AX Pro
The Tritton AX Pro is chiefly aimed at console gamers moreso than PC gamers, but it works for PC gamers as well. If you willing to put up with the extra cables required to connect the AX Pro to your PC, it offers good comfort and excellent sound with a rich feature set.

Upper Class: ~$80-$120
These headsets offer generally excellent audio, and many boast surround sound and many other features. You can probably get everything you need in one of these headsets.

  • Cyber Snipa SONAR 5.1 Championship Edition
Cyber Snipa's SONAR 5.1 Championship headset is an excellent headset with great directional audio, good comfort, and even folds up nicely for storage or travel. The software control panel also provides plenty of audio customization options.
  • Logitech G35 USB *****
Essentially the wired and slightly less-refined version of Logitech's G930, the G35 USB is still an excellent all around headset that offers terrific 7.1 Dolby surround sound, thoughtful design, and a wealth of features perfect for gaming, music, and movies.
  • NOX Audio Specialist *****
The NOX Audio Specialist is a lightweight, very comfortable gaming headset that does an excellent job serving as both a full-sized PC gaming headset and a travel-friendly companion.
  • Raptor Gaming H3 7.1 USB
It isn't a pretty headset--as a matter of fact, it's kind of fugly--but the H3 ultimately has it where it counts and it  produces good directional audio thanks to multiple drivers. The H3 also boasts 3-different volume controls for Front, sides, and Rear audio, easy-to-reach volume knobs on the ear cups, and plenty of audio customization options.
  • Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Sigma *****
The Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Sigma is the larger, sturdier, and slightly more comfortable cousin of the Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha. The Sigma also boasts larger (50mm) drivers than the Alpha (40mm), but otherwise shares the exact same feature set with it.
  • SteelSeeries Siberia 5HV2
The SteelSeries Siberia 5HV2 headset provides good comfort, audio quality, and a LAN-party, travel-friendly design ideal for gamers that want to "take it with them".
  • SteelSeries Siberia V2 *****
The SteelSeries Sibera V2 Headset doesn't offer a lot of extra features, but it is still one of our long-time favorite headsets for comfort in the realm of full-sized PC gaming headsets.

Middle Class: ~$50-$75
Mid-range headsets are usually stereo 'nuts and bolts' headsets, but offer all the essentials in a modest price.

  • CompuExpert Sharkoon X-Static SX
The Sharkoon X-tatic SX is a relatively inexpensive stereo headset with a  USB-powered amplifier that creates exceptional bass and overall good audio for your PC or your Xbox 360.
  • Creative Labs Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha *****
The Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha surprised us with its comfort and didn't surprise us (much) with its outstanding audio quality and feature set. The Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha is among the best gaming headsets in its price class.
  • Plantronics Gamecom 777
The Gamecom 777 proves that even Plantronics, best known for their office communication headsets, has got a little game. It's not quite as comfortable as the Turtle Beach Ear Force Z2, however.
  • Razer Carcharias
The Razer Carcharias gaming headset provides excellent quality stereo sound and a noise-filtering microphone in a lightweight, extremely comfortable package perfect for long hours of gaming.
  • Rude Gameware Primal PC
Rude Gameware's Primal headset features an interesting "rumble pack" that attempts to enhance the bass by shaking your face. Ultimately, it's kind of like having a vibrator attached to your head, and it doesn't save the headset from it's poor, muddied sound.
  • Turtle Beach Ear Force Z2 *****
The Turtle Beach Ear Force Z2 headset provides excellent audio in a very comfortable package (it's among our favorites to date), and it feels more expensive than its modest $50 street price would suggest.

No Frills: Around $50 or less
This actually represents either low-end full-size headsets, or (in this case) mostly in-ear earphones designed for mobility.

  • Razer Moray+ mobile *****
The Razer Moray+ headset is a compact travelling companion perfect for gaming on mobile devices, listening to music, or even using as hands-free headset for your cell phone.
  • Razer Moray earphones
Razer's Moray in-ear headphones deliver excellent noise reduction and solid bass in a light, comfortable package. The Moray is a perfect for PC gaming, or just enjoying some of your favorite tunes.
  • SteelSeries Siberia in-ear earphones
The SteelSeries Siberia in-ear headset is a flexible, portable in-ear audio system good for PC or mobile gaming and audio applications.
