Patsy Swayze, mother of actor Patrick Swayze, died Monday night in her home. The 86-year-old died of undisclosed causes in her Simi Valley, Calif. home. According to United Press International on Sept. 19, she was a choreographer and a dance instructor.
Patsy Swayze's big-screen choreography credits include 'Urban Cowboy,' 'Liar's Moon' and 'Hope Floats.'
Patsy Swayze had many famous students. Standouts among them include Broadway star Tommy Tune, Jaclyn Smith, Randy Quaid and "Fame" director Debbie Allen. In addition to training Patrick for the role he was best known for in " Dirty Dancing," Swayze worked with her son and daughter-in-law, Lisa Niemi Swayze, for the 2003 film "One Last Dance." Lisa was her student as a teenager and married Patrick in 1975. They remained together until his death in 2009.
Born in 1927 in Houston, Texas, she got her start as a choreographer at the University of Houston, founded the Houston Jazz Ballet and her own studio. All of her five children became dancers and actors. She is survived by her children Don, Vicky Lynn, Sean Kyle and adopted daughter Bora Song.
