Wait for it. A new California/Italian deli called Appetito is about to open in Palm Springs across from the Ace Hotel at 1700 South El Camino Real. A real treat for local denizens and visitors, the menu will do a modern take on the classic Italian eatery “promising great food, fun, value and a sense of community’, according to its press release.
Available dishes range from house made pastas to panini and focaccia pizza created by Chef Chad Shaner, a CIA-Hyde Park graduate and Union Square Cafe alum (along with Patrick Service). "Appetito has been a dream of mine for many years," says co-owner, Patrick Service. "We've found the perfect location in south Palm Springs….great for neighbors and for visitors from nearby hotels."
The owners are banking on the deli becoming a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists and it sounds like they might be on the right track. The also expect to serve the young, hip and happening guests from the nearby Ace Hotel who may want a change of pace (but the food at the Ace is pretty darn good). Of course it does sound like it will go over big with the more mature Palm Springs residents who relocated from New York years ago, if you get my drift. Naturally the Diva will do her sampling and review after it opens.
