Visit any bait shop in the Carquinez Channel/Napa River area and you are bound to meet some grinning anglers, with their requisite white sturgeon pictures in tow. Pacific sturgeon are a hot topic right now. And even having to dodge storm debris in the Napa River is not dampening sturgeon hunters' spirits.
But that's not the only hazards that anglers need to pay attention to. The new year 2013 ushers in new sturgeon rules. Here's the rundown:
+++Mandatory sturgeon report card ($8.13)
+++Fish with no more than one barbless, single-shank and single-point hook
+++Size: No smaller than 40 inches and no larger than 60 inches, measured from the snout to the fork in the tail
.+++No white sturgeon over 68 inches can be taken from the water
+++No green sturgeon can be removed from the water
