Wallace, 66, is being held at the DeSoto County Jail in lieu of bond.
On March 20, police responded to a report that a dog had been set on fire, and neighborhood children watched as the dog's owner threw water on the dog trying to put out the kerosene induced flames.
The dog, a one-year-old Sharpei mix, was immediately placed in the care of Hardee Animal Rescue Team (HART) who has been raising funds for the dog's care. Hope has been recovering at the Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in Tampa, and has been making a remarkable recovery.
Hope suffered burns to 70% of her body, including her eyes.
On Sunday, Hope's latest update stated she has been eating canned food, her nutritional liquid food, treats, and has been socializing with other dogs. Advocates are hopeful she will recover.
Wallace is scheduled to be in court on May 19.
