Oscars 2014: Matthew McConaughey expresses gratitude to God

Actor Matthew McConaughey raised more than a few eyebrows and garnered both praise and hate speech for thanking God profusely when he won the best actor Oscar for his role as Ron Woodroof in "Dallas Buyer's Club." Not since Natalie Grant walked out of the GRAMMYS has the Twitterverse been so agitated over an awards show.

McConaughey has not always been known for walking the straight and narrow, but it seems the celebrity who has appeared in numerous diverse movie roles has been going to church in recent years with his family both at home and away. He has been photographed at church in Austin, TX with his mother and family, at church in Santa Monica CA with Camila and the kids, and at Cannes with Camila.

Apparently the actor, who stars in HBO's 2014 series "True Detective," is maturing in the process. At the Oscars McConaughey was one of very few who took the opportunity to express his gratitude to God, saying in part:

"First off I want to thank God, because He’s the one I look up to, He’s graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human kind. He has shown me that it’s a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates.”

Since gratitude reciprocates, thank YOU Matthew McConaughey for reminding us where our blessings come from.
