Oregon National Guard Soldier Cody S. Cunningham, 19, was arrested yesterday, Jan. 21, 2014, by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department on charges of sex abuse against children.

A spokesperson for the Oregon Army National Guard confirmed that Pvt. Cunningham is assigned to the Charlie Company, Second Battalion, 162nd Infantry based in Gresham, Ore. That same spokesperson indicated that Cunningham is active-duty.

KOIN.com filed these additional details today:

Detectives arrested him Tuesday on one count each of attempted second-degree sodomy, second-degree online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor.

Police said the male victim is under the age of 14. The reported conduct happened in Jan. 2014, police said.

After reviewing the case, officials with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office have only filed formal charges that include one count of first-degree online sexual corruption of a child and two counts second-degree online sexual corruption of a child. The case will be presented before a grand jury.

An online internet connection was used to make contact with the child. The website (s) used was not listed in the published information.

The investigation into this allegation is ongoing, but there is reason to believe there could be other victims.

Cunningham will go before the court tomorrow afternoon and will likely enter a plea of “not guilty”.
