When it’s hot out, it’s easy to skip breakfast. No one wants to turn on the stove and fry an egg when it feels like you could fry one on the sidewalk. In the sultry South, it’s already hot as soon as we get up in the morning.
Simple smoothies to the rescue!
Just three ingredients, a quick bzzt in the blender, and you’ve got a nutritious breakfast drink that’s cool and frosty enough for even the most sweltering days.
Make up a batch in the morning and keep it in the refrigerator, then family members --especially kids sleeping in when there’s no school-- can grab a glass without breaking a sweat.
Like it even frostier? Toss in a few ice cubes for a slushier texture. Feel free to change up the type of juice or fruit. Pineapple juice and banana chunks, orange juice and mango, or any juice with fresh berries are all super combos.
Use whatever is fresh, cool and on hand. You can even use frozen fruit --just pile it right in the blender. It purees just fine and adds chill to the smoothie.
