One Direction has scored two nominations for the 2013 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, which will take place March 23 at the University of Southern California's Galen Center in Los Angeles. Nickelodeon (which announced the show's nominations on Feb. 13, 2013) will telecast the show on March 23, 2013, at 8 p.m. EST/PST.
One Direction is nominated for Favorite Music Group, while One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" is nominated for Favorite Song.
Voting for the 2013 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards will be open to the public on Nickelodeon's official website, as of Feb. 14, 2013. Josh Duhamel is hosting the awards show. Performers, presenters and other attendees are to be announced.
One Direction will not be at the ceremony because the group is doing two concerts in Birmingham, England, on March 23, 2013. However, if One Direction wins an award, then it's possible that a prerecorded acceptance speech will be shown during the telecast.
Meanwhile, "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell is nominated for Favorite Villain at the awards show. Cowell was One Direction's mentor on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, and he signed One Direction to Syco Music, the record company that he co-owns with Sony Music.
One Direction performed "What Makes You Beautiful" at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards (U.S.), but the group was not nominated at that show because One Direction's music was released in the U.S. after the eligibility date for that show. One Direction won prizes in the U.K.-only categories of the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, and has since become "The X Factor's" biggest-selling act worldwide. One Direction has already won numerous awards (usually voted by the public), including prizes at the 2013 People's Choice Awards, 2013 NRJ Music Awards, 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, 2012 Teen Choice Awards, 2012 BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards, 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, 2012 Bambi Awards, 2012 ARIA Awards and 2012 Brit Awards.
