The Olympic ice dance competition had a wardrobe malfunction on Monday and the fans were disappointed to see it happened to a USA pair of athletes. Alex and Maia Shibutani worked hard to get to Sochi and the athletes couldn't have seen what was coming in the competition. According to the Detroit Free Press on Monday, the pair got stuck in front of the Olympic judges on live television.

The wardrobe malfunction started when the clothing of the two athletes stuck during the performance on the ice. The Michael Jackson music was playing and the technique needed was a lift. During the move Maia’s skirt got caught in Alex’s jacket. It appears that the athletes were physically stuck together as the clothing snagged.

It was a moment of horror as the ice dance skaters needed to gracefully pull apart the clothing and continue with the program. They finally did get free, but it did cost points in the ice dance program. Unwilling to give up, the pair kept going and finished strong.

The wardrobe malfunction is something that has never happened to this pair of athletes before. And USA fans hope it never happens again. The pair worked hard to get to the Olympics. For them to go home without the world seeing their full potential because of a piece of clothing is disappointing.

Take a look at the photo slideshow of Alex and Maia Shibutani. America is proud of the ice dancers no matter where they place. A fluke Olympic wardrobe malfunction isn't fun for anyone. Thankfully this pair of performers knew how to handle the inconvenience!
