"The X Factor" U.K. alumni Olly Murs, One Direction and James Arthur are nominated for prizes at the 2013 Brit Awards. The nominations were announced on January 10, 2013. The awards show will take place at London's O2 Arena on February 20, 2013. Almost all of the prizes given at the Brit Awards are voted for by the public.
Eligible songs and albums were those that were released in the U.K. in 2012.
One Direction will be among the performers at the awards show, which will once again be hosted by actor/comedian James Corden. Other performers at the show announced so far are Muse, Robbie Williams and Mumford & Sons.
Murs came in second place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2009. He has two nominations for the 2013 Brit Awards: Best Single (for "Troublemaker" featuring Flo Rida) and Best British Male Solo Artist. "Troublemaker," which was a No. 1 hit in the U.K., is the first single from Murs' third U.K. album, "Right Place Right Time." However, "Right Place Right Time" did not get a nomination.
One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010. One Direction has two nominations for the 2013 Brit Awards: Best British Group and Best Brits Global Success. Although One Direction's "Take Me Home" album (the group's second album) and the album's first three singles ("Live While We're Young," "Little Things" and "Kiss You") were eligible for nominations, they all did not score any nominations. One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" won the 2012 Brit Award for Best British Single.
Arthur came in first place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2012. He has one nomination for the 2013 Brit Awards: Best British Single, for his cover version of Shontelle's "Impossible," which was a No. 1 hit in the U.K.
There are 15 nominees in the Best British Single category, which the Brit Awards said are the singles that had the biggest sales in the U.K. in the eligible year.
Several "X Factor" U.K. stars who released new albums and/or new singles in the U.K. in 2012 failed to get any nomination for the 2013 Brit Awards. Those who were snubbed included:
- Leona Lewis (first place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2006)
