Each year, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) compiles a list of the Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities and selects one male and one female star who not only promote the vegetarian lifestyle but who also look great doing it.
In 2010, Olivia Wilde won the female crown with Lisa Edelstein as runner-up. Olivia became vegan in 2009 after being “mostly vegetarian but still eating fish” for many years. On her decision to be vegan, she says, “Beyond my desire to boycott the torture factories, I am also way happier when I eat a plant based diet and I feel about a thousand times more energetic.”
PETA’s 2011 selection for Sexiest Female Vegetarian Celebrity goes to Kristen Wiig, the Saturday Night Live actress who most recently wrote, produced and starred in the comedy film Bridesmaids. She has been nominated twice for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her SNL work.
Kristin’s inspiration for following a vegetarian diet is to stay fit. She told Women’s Health magazine that she maintains a healthy lifestyle by eating a lot of tofu and soy in addition to running and doing yoga.
Past female PETA Sexiest Female Celebrity Vegetarians have been Kellie Pickler (2009), Leona Lewis (2008), Carrie Underwood (2007 and 2005), Kristen Bell (2006), and Alicia Silverstone (2004).
This year’s Male Sexiest Vegetarian Award went to actor Russell Brand.
