As much as anything, this article is a record of what this writer doesn't know, as opposed to what he does know. And not for lack of trying.
Obamacare (aka the Affordable Care Act) was sold to America by President Barack Obama as humanitarian imperative. WE THE PEOPLE were told that 16% of Americans did not have health coverage. (As well as, "If you like your insurance, you can keep it along with your doctor and all for a much lower price.)
The fast math says that 16% of 300 Million (actually 315M) would be 48 Million Americans without health care coverage.
And despite the fact that this writer personally opposed Obamacare, after the US Supreme Court completely blew the call on its Constitutionality(IMHO), this writer resigned himself to the results of the Democratic Process in this, our Representative, Constitutionally, Limited Republic.
As an aside, this writer pointed out that our classic healthcare system was not fixed and reformed because both our Republican and Democrat elected officials kept taking legalized bribes otherwise known as campaign contributions from Insurance Companies and Hospitals. This writer favored keeping our traditional healthcare system, which was mostly OK for 84% of Americans, and making the Legislative tweaks which would address its major faults.(pre-existing conditions, etc) And, providing a safety net for those persons who wanted, but could not afford health coverage. (While pointing out that most states already provided said safety nets.) But lets get back to the numbers.
Based on the pent up demand the Democrats and Progressive President Barrack Obama used as the rational for gutting our traditional healthcare system and replacing it with Obamacare, this writer had a certain expectation that folks without coverage, having for so long been denied access, would rush to enroll in free and/or reduced cost healthcare.
But it seems no such "crush" for coverage has developed years have Obamacare became law and months after the Obamcare website has been open and allegedly functioning correctly.
The current number this writer hears is 6 Million? 6 Million have what? visited the website? entered information on the website? Selected a plan? Paid for a Plan? Unless the premiums have been paid, should sign ups could toward the achieving that goal? And, of that 6 Million, how many were persons without previous coverage.
Now, this writer's regular readers know that he is a fan of the adage, "Actions speak Louder than words".
If 16% of Americans didn't have Health coverage, and presumably voted Democrat to get health coverage, wouldn't somewhere near all of them sign up for Obamacare without a massive advertising campaign and threats of IRS penalties? That would be the afore-mentioned 48 Million previously without health coverage. That 48 Million would certainly go a long way to explaining how Obama got 65,182,692 votes in 2008. And in asking this question of various elected officials this writer gets the various stalls and/or explanations that he isn't looking at the numbers correctly. But why would that be?
Again, going with the "Actions Speak Louder than Words" premise; If Obamacare enrollment had been as wildly successful as some would have us believe, wouldn't they broadcast that information. Would there not be cool, flashy graphics on the Main Stream Media and/or on government website and/or on the internet trumpeting the success of Obamacare with specific details and explanations of how the 48 Million previously uncovered Americans were in some way or another covered by this Obamacare. Wouldn't this fevered pitch be commensurate with the alleged Elections results of 2008 & 2012?
Is anyone going to mention the strawman in the room?
Yet, somehow we are provided a strawman figure of a 7 Million goal(now reduced to 6 Million). Again, 7 or 6 Million what? And how does 7 or 6 Million figure relate to the 48 Million figure without coverage that we were told about during the Obamacare debate? Suddenly the Progressive Logic is that 5 Million is only 2 Million from 7 Million? Wow, that 5 Million ? is pretty close to knocking down that 7 Million ? strawman. What happened to the 48 Million persons without coverage? And how do 6 Million ?, some of them presumably children, get President Obama anywhere near 65,182,692 votes in 2008? Something just not feel right about these numbers to this writer.
Is it too much for a citizen to ask the White House to explain exactly what these numbers mean and exactly how many persons who did not previously have health care coverage now have said coverage? And of those newly covered, How many got coverage for free and/or at a steeply discounted rate?
It appears that this 7 or 6 Million views/signups/persons/enrollments/paid policies? is not consistent with the election results, hype or representations related to the passage of Obamacare.
Is writer wrong to believe the enrollment numbers for Obamacare should more closely reflect the representations/firestorm which brought Obamacare to fruition?
Shouldn't a member of the press be able to find, hopefully relatively easily, a straightforward "progress report" on Obamacare participation with all the breakouts of the number the general public is interested in?
Well, March 31, 2014 is the first enrollment deadline. Maybe we will get straight forward logical answers tomorrow? or not.
Those were my thoughts.
Thank you, my fellow citizens, for taking your valuable time to read and reflect upon what is written here.
If what is written here rings true to you, perhaps you should contact your local elected officials and let them know. If you are afraid of repercussions, snail mail it anonymously and ask them to respond in the local paper or their own monthly/quarterly internet newsletter. Even if this article refers to something outside you geographic area, it still likely applies to your location. Remember all those taxpayer training junkets we taxpayers send the bureaucrats on? They all learn the same “livestock management” techniques to use on WE THE PEOPLE.
And that leaves WE THE PEOPLE with this conundrum: While our #Government works full time with compensation and funded with our money for the cause of #Tyranny; WE THE PEOPLE are forced to work part time without compensation for the cause of #liberty with what is left over of our time, money and energy.
Finally, this article is written with the same intentions as Thomas Paine http://ushistory.org/paine. I seek no leadership role. I seek only to help the American People find their own way using their own “Common Sense” http://amzn.to/kbRuar
