Obama Received a $101,332 Bonus from AIG

AP Photo/Ron Edmonds

Senator Barack Obama received a $101,332 bonus from American International Group in the form of political contributions according to Opensecrets.org. The two biggest Congressional recipients of bonuses from the A.I.G. are - Senators Chris Dodd and Senator Barack Obama

The A.I.G. Financial Products affiliate of A.I.G. gave out $136,928, the most of any AIG affiliate, in the 2008 cycle.  I would note that A.I.G.’s financial products division is the unit that wrote trillions of dollars’ worth of credit-default swaps and "misjudged" the risk.

The Washington Post reports a "mob effect" at A.I.G financial products division:

A tidal wave of public outrage over bonus payments swamped American International Group yesterday. Hired guards stood watch outside the suburban Connecticut offices of AIG Financial Products, the division whose exotic derivatives brought the insurance giant to the brink of collapse last year. Inside, death threats and angry letters flooded e-mail inboxes. Irate callers lit up the phone lines. Senior managers submitted their resignations. Some employees didn't show up at all.

With the anger and rage that is being exhibited against A.I.G., perhaps the bonuses Obama received from A.I.G. explain Obama's A.I.G crocodile tears.

Now that the Wall street Journal has revealed that A.I.G. paid bonuses of $1 million or more to 73 employees, it's time to ask if recipients of A.I.G. "bonuses," including President Obama, will give what now ought to be taxpayer money back?

I'd say this news is shameful except Obama and his band of thugs and thieves have no shame. What a lying, hateful, hypocrite this man is. I hope every idiot who voted for him is happy.

    Only $101k??? What a sucker.

What a liar Dan is! He's not an affiliate and did NOT recieve a bonus!
This type of journalism and BS is why we will never have any honest conversations in this country. We need to base our information and discussion in reality if we ever hope to find our way out of the maze of the smoke and mirrors of the new media and mind f***ery.

  • Arrgy 5 years ago

Just heard Lou Dobbs say...McCain received $66k and Clinton, $36k from AIG. Is McCain an affiliate of AIG? Hell no. Stop publishing liars words. It dangerously divides our country.
There are 2 parties. One is against the middle class and for wealth consolidation the other is a 180.

Arrgy, they both are for corporations and against the small guy. No matter who's in power, it's always more debt, more spending, more wars, fewer civil liberties, more central planning. More government/corpratist power, less freedom.

It's time to stop playing the red/blue game, and recognize the truth.

  • Andy 5 years ago

I've got news for all of you - both of these 'parties' are corrupt. Every one of them has sold their soul to the bankers who run this country. The Dem vs. Repub. stuff is for weak-minded fools to argue about while the new Rome burns.

From page H1412 of the Final Stimulus Bill, “SEC. 111. EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE:
“(iii) The prohibition required under clause (i) shall not be construed to prohibit any bonus payment required to be paid pursuant to a writte employment contract executed on or before February 11, 2009, as such valid employment contracts are determined by the Secretary or the designee of the Secretary.”

This amendment provides an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009, which exempts the very AIG bonuses Obama is condemning every single chance he gets. The amendment is in the final version and is law.

American International Group (AIG) Contributed to the Following Members of the Senate

    Dodd, Chris (D-CT) Senate $103,100
    Obama, Barack (D-IL)Senate $101,332
    Clinton, Hillary (D-NY) Senate $35,965
    Baucus, Max (D-MT) Senate $24,750
    Biden, Joseph R Jr (D-DE) Senate $19,975

Never ceases to amaze me how corrupt and devious the presidency is. Upon other things, we need a revolution. These evil s.o.b.'s continue to leach off of us and you except it as, oh it will get better, it will "change". Well keep "hoping" cuz thats all it will ever be. I dont understand how weak the majority of our country are. It saddens me to damn near commatose. Wake up people we can stop this dead in it's tracks.

OhBummer getting a bite out of every passing dollar doesn't surprise me in the slightest, nor does the outrage expressed by his followers, apologists, and hangers-on, when OhBummer is caught with his hand in the cookie jar ---- while blowing smoke up our bxtts about hope and change and the price of tea in China.

  • dp 5 years ago

you mean king obama is a fraud?? regardless, lets face it. this is nothing compared to:

    1. the foreign funds he raised for his campaign
    2. the fake birth cert
    3. the 800 billion he sole from the taxpayers
    4. his corrupt appointees.
    5. his dictatorship executive order spree
    6. his compassion for terrorists
    7. Resco, airs, rev wright and blago connections

Do not under estimate the power of a teleprompter and uninformed voters.

Caught with your hand in the cookie jar. Doesnt sound like O'bama has the luck of the Irish, sounds like he as the greed of AIG.

  • David 5 years ago

Look - AIG spilt its contributions 50/50. Dodd (the leading recipient) DID add the language which exempted the bonuses and our elected idiots submitted the bill (without reading it) to the President who signed it into law (probably without reading it either.) AIG are crooks, our officials are scammers, but we're the real morons here. We keep sending the same celebrity-seeking, country-dividing, spinless souls to Washginton! They're all lying to our face and laughing behind closed doors. As long as they keep us fighting about this stupid crap, we'll never get anywhere and that is exactly where they want us.

Not Surprised! No morality from far too many poloticians and AMERICANS alike... do as I say NOT as I do!

I still reject the notion that the president is not unable to show the world his "Official" birth certificate that is sealed by the Governor of Hawaii. There's a lot of money behind the Obama machine and much of it comes from suspicious sources... Donations from the Dallas Cowboys offensive line in Arizona, Mickey Mouse and crew...

WHY CAN'T WE TAKE OUR ADVICE????

NEXT ELECTION, VOTE EVERYONE OUT. START FRESH, ADD TERM LIMITS AND DON'T SIT BACK AND TAKE IT. LET EVERY POLITICIAN KNOW WHEN THEY SCREW UP.

Enough is enough!!! Where's the outrage in the mainstream media? Every remote connection that CHeney had with Halliburton was fingered as evidence of coruption! Here's Barack taking AIG money in 08, pointing the finger conveniently TOO LATE in 09!! THROW OUT THE CROOKED OBAMABUMS!!! SICKENING!!!

  • David 5 years ago

Not yet 60 days on the job and The Great One has already screwed this country to hell...and only he gets to smoke the cigarette. You do know he's a smoker, right? Well, I guess it's the tobacco industries turn to have a bailout from one of their own customers. Go Newports!!!

  • RAIDERMANN 5 years ago

  • Leslie 5 years ago

Well it just keep getting better and better. Damn good thing people voted for "change" because that is all that is left.

  • Frank 5 years ago

We had clinton (white trash) now we have obama (black trash) well that is change!! When can impeachment begin?

  • Jim 5 years ago

What a horrible story, but not at all surprising! Obama will go down as the President who took the U.S. past the point of no economic return. His Marxist agenda will cement him in the history books as the worst president of the U.S. Reagan would roll over in his grave. All joking aside, it's about time for a second civil war. You know that it's only a matter of time! If you're contibuting to society(and not an Obama leach looking for a handout) how far will you let them push you and your family before you snap?

  • walt 5 years ago

Unbelievable, Geitner, Dodd and Obama all signed off on this bailout with the bonuses....at least Obama and Dodd got 100K+ from AIG in Campaign Contributions...guess who is likely to lose his job over this...aint the old white haired guy or the black guy.
And we thought the Bush Administration was bad, we aint seen nothing yet.

  • David 5 years ago

silly partisan fools. when will you partisan idiots ever learn. Corruption, cronyism, greed and nepotism are THE culture in Washington DC.... the republicans were corrupt greedy dogs and now its the democrats turn to do the same to us...WAKE THE HELL UP!

  • Hahaha 5 years ago

Hey you Repulipukes! You LOST! Get over it. Like the jerk who says he is still waiting for Obama's REAL birthplace to be uncovered: I hope you hold your breath while you wait. As for this story, I see some point to it, but how was Obama to know in early 2008 that AIG was going to blow? And now he is going after AIG in a big way, so what do you want him to do? Give them back their campaign donations? His attacks on AIG only prove that they failed to buy him.
