Obama: Muslims responsible for 'core of our democracy'

Though he often ignores any mention of the Christian celebration of Easter, President Obama never misses an opportunity to officially recognize a Muslim holiday. This year's end to Ramadan, known as Eid-al-Fitr was no exception...

On Sunday, the White House issued the following statement:

As Muslims throughout the United States and around the world celebrate Eid-al-Fitr, Michelle and I extend our warmest wishes to them and their families. This last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate. While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease.

In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy. That is why we stand with people of all faiths, here at home and around the world, to protect and advance their rights to prosper, and we welcome their commitment to giving back to their communities.

On behalf of the Administration, we wish Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration. Eid Mubarak.

Of course, this is not the first time Obama has made such a claim...

In August 2010, the White House released a statement, marking the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, by saying: "And here in the United States, Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country."

So, is he saying that Muslims helped establish the United States and worked with John Adams and Thomas Jefferson in drafting our Constitution? Or, maybe large ranks of Muslim Americans fought under George Washington in the Continental Army to gain this nation's independence from Great Britain? Or, is the president referring to those Muslims who fought so valiantly during this country's Civil War to end the shameful institution of slavery?

No...He could not be referring to any of those aforementioned scenarios, because none of them ever happened. But, then again, when has this president ever let the truth get in his way?

In fact, Muslims not only played no part in establishing "the very fabric of our nation," nor in preserving or protecting "the core of our democracy," but it was largely Muslims who sold their non-Muslim countrymen into slavery in Africa.

The left has made much of the fact that Thomas Jefferson once owned a copy of the Koran (the same one which Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison used to take his oath of office). However, those in this country who seek to appease radical Muslims, or wish to apologize for American exceptionalism never tell of Jefferson's actual experiences with the Muslim world.

In 1801, Jefferson asked Congress and received from them, an authorization to use force against the forces of Yusuf Karamanli, the Pasha of Tripoli, after he demanded $225,000 ransom from the newly inaugurated president. In exchange for the money, the Pasha would agree to leave U.S. merchant ships traveling along the Barbary Coast, unmolested.

Jefferson used the U.S. Navy and Marines to blockade the Barbary ports, and waged a relentless war against the pirates. In 1805 Yusuf Karamanli ended hostilities and signed a peace treaty, which lasted all of two years, when the Barbary pirates began once again, capturing U.S. merchant vessels.

Furthermore, in 2010, Paul Williams, Ph.D., writing for Family Security Matters, said:

...there is no record of any Islamic American among the enlisted and conscripted forces of World War I, let alone among the blue and grey armies of the Civil War. The great migrations that lasted from 1865 to 1925 brought 35,000,000 people to the New World: 4,500,000 from Ireland, 4,000,000 from Great Britain, 6,000,000 from central Europe, 2,000,000 from the Scandinavian countries, 5,000,000 from Italy, 8,000,000 from Eastern Europe, and 3,000,000 from the Balkans. But the number of Muslims who came here from the Middle East was statistically nil.

And, that hasn't changed much...By 2011, Muslims accounted for only 0.8 percent of the U.S. population, according to statistics from the Pew Research Center.

In conclusion, this president who was raised a Muslim, and who referred to the Fort Hood massacre (in which radical Muslim, Sgt. Nidal Hassan shot and killed 13 people, while shouting "Allah Akbar") as an example of "workplace violence," has tried once again to re-write history.

*That last sentence is in reference to the 2012 discovery that President Obama (or, more likely a faithful staffer) had actually written himself into the biographies of every president since Calvin Coolidge. The biographies appear on the official White House website.

Two such examples follow (not kidding):

-In a 1946 letter to the National Urban League, President Truman wrote that the government has “an obligation to see that the civil rights of every citizen are fully and equally protected.” He ended racial segregation in civil service and the armed forces in 1948. Today the Obama administration continues to strive toward upholding the civil rights of its citizens, repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, allowing people of all sexual orientations to serve openly in our armed forces.

-President Lyndon Johnson signed Medicare signed (sic) into law in 1965—providing millions of elderly healthcare stability. President Obama’s historic health care reform law, the Affordable Care Act, strengthens Medicare, offers eligible seniors a range of preventive services with no cost-sharing, and provides discounts on drugs when in the coverage gap known as the “donut hole.”
