While serving as a state senator Obama supported SB99, a proposal mandating schools include sexual education for kindergartener that previously was only required for students in grades six through 12.
Now that’s what happening in the Chicago school district while parents ask if a five-year old child too young to learn about sex?
Conservative parents say “yes” while the Chicago public schools say “no.” This year kindergarteners will receive 30 minutes of sexual and health education a month as all the other educational issues in the city remain unsolved.
CBS Chicago reports they will also learn about different family structures such as a home where there are two moms in the house. Conservatives believe that it is a way to normalize homosexuality.
According to Hot Air this action brings up two issues:
Children of this age aren’t going to have the sophistification to process this kind of sexual instruction which should be addressed by parents that reflect the values in the home.
Why is sexuality being added to the curriculum for kindergarteners in Chicago schools when 52.5% of students between 3rd and 8th grade could not pass the Illinois Standards Achievement Test?
At the present time parents who object to having their children in sexual-oriented and same sex marriages can opt out however this could mean that those students may be stigmatized in other ways.
There are other concerns for Conservative parents as well in that there are an increasing number of Gay-Straight clubs in public schools which is also influencing more curriculum involving sexuality and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender discussions.
The question that remains asks why is Chicago following Obama's liberal mandate in teaching 5-year-olds about sex when only half of the students in the school system can perform academically at grade level?
