Oath keeping sheriffs pledge their lives to protect counties from 'gun control'

Last week, we looked at eight states, including Missouri, (since then, a ninth, New Mexico, has joined in) where "Second Amendment Preservation Act" legislation has been introduced. The Second Amendment Preservation Act, depending on state to state variations, makes enforcement of new federal forcible citizen disarmament laws (and executive orders) a felony in that state.

Earlier in the month, we looked at a couple sheriffs who refuse to do business with gun retailers who sell so-called "assault weapons" (gun banner-speak for "regime change rifles") to government agencies, but not to private citizens. The same article also notes on the other hand that retired General Stanley McChrystal wants effective fighting arms to be the exclusive province of the government. Since then, it has become apparent that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta also wants Americans to be less able to defend themselves.

Now, Washington Examiner reports that the Utah Sheriffs Association has thrown down the most explicit gauntlet yet, sending a letter to President Obama strongly implying a willingness to engage in open combat with federal forces intent on infringing that which shall not be infringed (emphasis added):

We respect the Office of the President of the United States of America. But, make no mistake, as the duly-elected sheriffs of our respective counties, we will enforce the rights guaranteed to our citizens by the Constitution. No federal official will be permitted to descend upon our constituents and take from them what the Bill of Rights--in particular Amendment II--has given them. We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.

The "government monopoly on force" fanatics at the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence are predictably horrified (with numerous comments accusing the sheriffs of CSGV's favorite capital crime: "treason"). The sheriffs are also now listed on CSGV's "Insurrectionism Timeline."

Here in Missouri, CBS News reports that at least a dozen sheriffs have signed Johnson County Sheriff Charles M. Heiss' hardly less forceful letter to the President:

As the duly elected Sheriff of Johnson County, Missouri, it is my sworn duty to protect and defend the Constitutions of the United States of America, and the State of Missouri against all enemies both foreign and domestic. This means I not only have the duty to protect my constituents from incidents of crime, but I also have a duty and responsibility to protect and preserve the individual rights and liberties afforded and guaranteed to every citizen by our constitutions. This, Mr. President is a duty I fully understand, appreciate, and will carry out with great vigor and conviction.

Against this backdrop of growing numbers of sheriffs (some even in such "gun control"-happy states as New York and California) reaffirming their oaths to the Constitution and to the citizens of the counties they serve, come disturbing allegations that the Obama administration is imposing a "litmus test" for top military officers' suitability for command, that they be willing to order their troops to fire on American citizens.

The source of this charge is no wild-eyed conspiracy theorist, but the respected author, humanitarian and Nobel Prize nominee Dr. Jim Garrow, claiming that his source (who for obvious reason must remain anonymous) is "one of America's foremost military heroes." This allegation has prompted speculation that refusal to play along with any potential Obama regime war plans against the American people is the real reason that revered Marine General James Mattis is being forced from his post.

If the federal government expects a potential "war at home" to be one sided, it is making an enormous, and very possibly fatal, mistake. The battle lines are being drawn, and every American citizen, whether on the government payroll or not, may very soon be forced to pick a side. Choose wisely.
