Gun Rights Examiner has confirmed that rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent will attend President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address before Congress Tuesday evening in the House chambers.
Nugent, who has been an outspoken critic of the president’s gun control position, was invited to the event by Congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX), according to the Washington Times and Vanity Fair.
Nugent’s son, Toby, spoke briefly with this column Monday and confirmed that “the plan is for him to fly into D.C. Tuesday.”
Full disclosure: This writer served with Nugent on the National Rifle Association’s Board of Directors some years back. The last time we spoke face-to-face was at SeaTac airport a couple of years ago when Nugent was changing airplanes for a trek to Southwest Alaska where he was going bear hunting.
“The Nuge” has never been shy about speaking his mind, as a recent YouTube video reveals. He described the president as “an evil, dangerous man who hates America and hates freedom.”
Nugent still serves on the NRA Board, and he has been a lightning rod for controversy, on which he seems to thrive. Last November, following Obama’s re-election, Nugent reportedly tweeted that Obama supporters were “pimps, whores and welfare brats.”
There is no doubt Nugent will share his thoughts about the president’s address Tuesday following the event.
He may provide some “balance” in the audience, which will also include victims of violent crime who have been invited by Democrats, possibly to be recognized by the president when he touches on gun control measures he would like to push through Congress this year.
