The NSL Invitational Cup Grand Finals hosted by Unknown Worlds, and the Electronic Sports League will take place later today in Cologne, Germany. It will be North America vs. Europe as Nexzil, a team from the United States, will be facing Archaea, the European champions from the previous Cologne event, to determine just who is the best in the world at Natural Selection 2.

Natural Selection 2 is a PC game developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment that combines elements from first-person shooters and real-time strategy games. There is over $5,000 of cash and prizes on the line today.

"For over ten years, Natural Selection has been played competitively. For over ten years, there has been a 'European scene' and a 'North-American scene'. Today, the barrier between the two came crashing down. Nexzil has made it to the Grand Final of the Natural Selection League Invitational Cup," said Sean Charles, Vice President of Marketing and Publisher Relations at Electronic Sports League. "That means that UWE is putting them on a plane across the Atlantic Ocean, to Germany! There, they will face Archaea, the hitherto undisputed kings of competitive NS2. No pings, no lag, both teams sitting less than six feet from each other."

Prize distribution is as follows:

  • First place: $2,500 + Logitech gear + Airfares/Accommodation to Germany
  • Second place: $1,500 + Airfares/Accommodation to Germany
  • Third place: $1,000

The event will be streamed live online on starting at 20:00 CET (2:00 p.m. EDT).
