Representatives for Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr told Beatles Examiner Jan. 8 that stories circulating on the internet that the two Beatles would be performing together on “The David Letterman Show” next month are, at this point, not yet a done deal and are still unconfirmed.
“It has been discussed but that is as far as it has gone. Nothing is confirmed,” Ringo Starr's press representative told us by email.
“Wait and see as usual,” a Paul McCartney representative said.
The internet report Tuesday that the reunion “we've all been waiting for” could happen also neglected to mention the times that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have performed together in the past few years. There was the 70th birthday surprise for Ringo's at Radio City Music Hall in 2010 when McCartney sang “Birthday” with a stunned Ringo in front of an incredibly thrilled audience.
More significantly, there was the “Change Begins Within” benefit in 2009 when Ringo and Paul were both on stage to sing “With a Little Help From My Friends” and “I Saw Her Standing There.” The two appeared together at a press conference before the concert. (See the slideshow.) Also in 2009, the two made a surprise appearance together at a gaming conference to introduce "The Beatles Rock Band."
Is a 2014 performance together possible? Sure.
Is it definite? Not yet, the two Beatles' representatives say.
