In other words, more than ten thousand criminals have gone into hiding, and are no longer being monitored by law enforcement.
Of those, 3,454 are "confirmed and probable illegal alien absconders," according to the citizen advocacy group known as NCFIRE.
A few examples of those now missing follow:

Convicted of DUI (Level 2) on 06/09/2009
-Luis Adan Flores

Why were these offenders not reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation after they were arrested?
There are two explanations for this...
First, officials in many of North Carolina's larger cities have adopted 'sanctuary policies' for illegal aliens, as part of this policy, they do not allow their police and sheriff's departments to report or even to inquire into the immigration status of anyone suspected of a misdemeanor.
Secondly, they may have actually been reported by local law enforcement upon their arrest. However, under President Obama's new guidelines, ICE officials are no longer allowed to pick up most illegal aliens charged only with misdemeanors.
In December 2012, the Obama administration quietly issued a memo which only allowed ICE agents to issue a 'hold,' if "the individual has three or more prior misdemeanor convictions."
The fact of the matter is, these criminals could be anywhere.
Recently, this columnist has focused a great deal of attention and time on the veritable epidemic of crimes being committed in the Tar Heel state by illegal aliens.
The results of the research have been both troubling as well as downright frightening.
It is troubling because North Carolina's children are paying the heaviest price for the influx of cheap labor, as another child becomes a target of an illegal alien sexual predator on a daily basis.
It is so very frightening because North Carolina is not a border state, it is exactly 1,618 miles from North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh to the border town of Juarez, Mexico.
The state has become a bellwether for what is is likely to become of every state in the union, that is unless we soon elect both local and national political leaders who will take drastic measures to right our sinking ship of state.
It has become obvious to even the most casual political observer that Obama will never make any effort to either defend our border with Mexico, nor to defend our current immigration laws.
