Less than a year after Superstorm Sandy ravaged the Jersey shore, the small town of Seaside Park has suffered another major blow. Today, September 12, 2013, the boardwalk which was opened only months ago after serious damage from Superstorm Sandy is up in flames.
The fire is currently being reported to be six alarms, and, it is estimated to have started around 2:15 this afternoon at Kohr's Frozen Custard, an icon of the Seaside Park boardwalk for decades. The fire is rapidly spreading due to strong winds which has caused embers to scatter up to four blocks away from the main fire on the boardwalk.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and, several firefighters have already been treated for some inhalation. The out of control blaze continues to make its way North threatening more businesses and potentially even area homes.
